Lens types

Transitions: Also known as photochromic or photogray lenses. These lenses get darker when exposed to ultraviolet light which is found only in the presence of direct/outdoor sunshine. As a comfort/convenience lens, Transitions are great! They can be a little disappointing however if you are expecting a very dark lens while inside a motor vehicle due to the natural UV filtering of the glass windshield.

Polycarbonate: Polycarbonates are one of the higher index lens materials. It allows your lenses to be made thinner and lighter weight than traditional glass or plastic. Polycarbonate lenses are more confortable to wear and are up to 10 times safer when it comes to lens chipping, cracking, fracturing or breaking. Polycarbonate lenses are very protective for your eyes.

High index: A lens material that makes your prescription lenses up to 50% thinner than conventional glass or plastic lenses. High index lenses are recomendable for prescriptions that have more than 4 diopters of power.

Progressive: Often mistakenly called “No Line Bifocals” because they are NOT bifocals. Progressive lenses are an all-focus lens where the lower portion progressively increases in magnification. They allow the wearer to see without the interference of a line. Progressive lenses provide a clear vision for near, mid-range and distance activities.

Computer Progressive: A hybrid lens designed to provide maximum vision coverage for mid-range/intermediate computer work as well as maximum magnification for up-close near vision requirements. This lens eliminates the head gymnastics resulting from trying to use conventional bifocals/trifocals to work on the computer. These Computer Progressive are a task specific type of lens and are loved by all who try them.

Free Form/Digital: A highly complex computerized lens design that produces the most accurate lens on the market today. This lens design eliminates all forms of peripheral distortion and lens aberrations associated with prescriptions of high power and/or astigmatism. It’s like comparing regular TV to HD, this technology is truly the wave of the future!

Wrap Around: Using Free Form/digital lens design allows us to put the prescription into frames of extreme facial wrap. This is a new process not seen before.

Optical Experts has contact lenses to suit your personal style and taste. We carry disposable contacts, soft contacts, bifocals, and toric contacts for those with astigmatism.
